‘Pass It On Week 2018’ at Shetland Home Co

Shetland Home Co, part of social enterprise COPE Ltd, are taking part in ‘Pass it on Week’ – Scotland’s annual Re-use week, from Saturday 10th to Saturday 17th March 2018.

‘Pass it on Week’ is an initiative by Zero Waste Scotland, part of the Scottish Government’s strategy to help to create a "Zero Waste" society by the year 2025. ‘Pass it on Week’ is about getting the message out about keeping stuff in use for longer, and encouraging people to see that although they've finished with something, it can still have a useful life with someone else. Research has shown it’s incredibly common for people to bin small electricals when they no longer need them, or hoard them at the back of cupboards. When these items can re-used by others, or broken down and recycled.

Shetland Home Co’s function is to Re-use and Recycle household items in Shetland with the aim of reducing waste. Their skilled team maximise this aim by carrying out small repairs, PAT testing all electrical items and ensuring all items are clean and in good working order before sale.

During 2017 Shetland Home Co worked hard to achieve Revolve Certification, which is Scotland’s national Re-use Quality Standard, which aims to increase re-use across the country by improving professionalism, customer experience and visibility of re-use organisations.

Shetland Home Co Business Manager, Louise Watson said “This is the perfect time of year for a good clear out at home, and we would be very grateful of any donations from the public. We are really excited to be part of ‘Pass it on Week’ again this year, it is a great initiative. We were bowled over by the support we received last year when we took part for the first time. This year we are really keen to encourage new customers to engage with us to increase recycling and re-use in Shetland, particularly at time when people are more aware than ever of their environmental impact. By supporting Shetland Home Co you are making a positive environmental and social difference.”
